In an age where healthcare costs are skyrocketing, who would have thought something as simple as a “twig” could help keep them in check. What does a twig have to do with healthcare? At Memorial Hospital, plenty. For over a half century, volunteers of the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary have played a vital role in providing much needed medical equipment, furnishings and more. The individual groups within the Auxiliary are called Twigs.
Each Twig’s primary goal is to sponsor fundraising events and to create community awareness of our hospital and the services we provide. The money raised is used exclusively to benefit the patients and their families through the purchase of items like new cardiac monitors, x-ray equipment, furniture, telephones and televisions in patient rooms—just to name a few. In fact, over 50 years ago, one of the first contributions made by the Auxiliary was used toward the construction of Memorial Hospital. Since then, hundreds of thousands of dollars have been contributed by the Auxiliary to finance construction projects and other needs within the hospital and at our extended care facility The Gables of Green Pastures.
The Auxiliary Twigs sponsor several fundraisers each year, including raffles, jewelry sales, craft and bake sales and more. One favorite fundraiser is the Auxiliary’s annual celebration held every November. This year the Auxiliary will bring the Festival of Trees back into the city of Marysville on November 8, 2008.
“Magic of the Holidays” will be held at Karen’s Event Center, featuring catering by Heflin Catering. Back by popular demand, The Arnett Howard Band will entertain guests with enchanting music and Danny Westlake will keep the auction exciting. Local decorators, along with Twig members will offer a wide assortment of beautifully decorated items for the live and silent auction, along with great raffle prizes. Sponsorships and donations are received from a wide range of Auxiliary supporters, including local businesses and community members.
