Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
If you have persistent lower back pain, suffer from arthritis, or are
recovering from a sports-related injury you may be
referred to Memorial Hospital’s Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation specialists.
Physical medicine is a comprehensive approach to
your individual needs that combines preventive medicine, non-surgical
treatment and teamwork to reach a set goal. Your treatment is overseen
by a physiatrist (doctor of physical medicine) and might include:
- Therapeutic exercise
- Prescription medication
- Heat and cold therapy
- Physical therapy
- Occupational therapy
- Manual therapy
- Injection techniques
- Biofeedback
- Special therapy
In addition to helping people with acute and chronic pain, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is
also important for people with birth defects, muscular dystrophy,
multiple sclerosis, stroke, brain injury or other major disability. The
ultimate goal is to improve your mobility, physical ability
and quality of life.
